London still in the era of Single Glazed Window…
Having spent the last days in London (sooooo nice) and being constantly reminded that energy efficiency is the single most important step to reducing energy consumption, I was surprised (amazed would be a better word) that so many of the buildings in London still have single glazed windows.
I stayed in the Hyde Park area (so very central…and where residents are not exactly short of a few bob) and 99.9% of the buildings still do not have double glazed windows.
The effects of bad windows is not only energy…it’s also comfort…if you sit next to a single glazed window and feel the down-draught, you will know what I mean…it’s really very uncomfortable. So central heating permanently on and you never seem to feel warm.
Statistically, 35% of your energy is lost through badly insulated windows and the quickest energy payback of any refurbishment will be upgrading windows. And as England is blessed with long winters, this is surely a big problem.
No, I am not trying to sound like a window salesman here, but I would like to understand why this is. Why are window manufacturers not working 24/7 to supply London with the best double glazed windows and save millions in energy…not to mention CO2…there must be an explanation.
